An American charity that pays drug addicts to get sterilized has expanded its operation into Great Britain, and while it has so far paid only one British man to undergo the procedure, it has triggered a storm of criticism.

Interesting. Do you agree with this or support this? Or is she taking advantage of people at a low point in there lives they could very well regret later on. Yes or No?

This is just stupid. The reason she doesn't want them to have children is because she does not believe that they can behave appropriately or make good decisions. And then she presents them with a choice that requires rational thought.

The man, identified only as John, told the BBC the money influenced his decision to undergo the procedure.

Unable to make informed choices for himself, he has swapped his future for a few hits. This woman should be really proud.

There actually was a lady here in the United States that was doing this for a while. Of course that was until the idiotic media got a hold of the story and found out that unfrotunately there were a disproportionate amount of black women opting for it, so of course such a stink storm was made out of it, I dont think she does it anymore. I think its an awesome idea. And if at some point in the future the person actually gets their act together they can always have the procedure reversed. At least she is making a pro-active attempt to keep children from being born addicted. And unless you have ever seen or been around a baby that had to deal with the withdrawel from this, your opinion doesnt and shouldnt count. I have seen it first hand, and dealt with it first hand, and it the most heart breaking thing in the world.

She does this here as well. It might be the same lady.

"The women we work with, due to the drug addictions, are not in sound minds to make such life-changing decisions."

This is a good enough reason not to become a mother. I think that offering people long term birth control, is a great idea! People that suffer through life with addictions do not make responsible choices like spending money on birth control when it would cost them their next hit. Their priority is not to have a family it is to get high. Getting high is more important than a crying baby.

Wow, I could really argue this both ways. In the case of men, the vasectomy can be reversed with a fairly high rate of success. In the case of women, sterilization is permanent. As a former drug addict, I was able to kick my habit and become a good mother to two children. I think those involved would have to be thinking very clearly and especially so in the case of women. I'm not sure a drug addict sees into the long term future very well and might agree to this just to get the next fix.

I would agree that sterilization is extreme but I believe it is only offered to people that already have children.
