For generations psychoanalysts such as Sigmund Freud thought that humour stemmed from a release of tension, or from a feeling of superiority or incongruity.

But new research from the University of Colorado suggests that humour stems from a benign violation of the way the world ought to be.

Lol. So this kind of explains why liberals and a lot of their thinking makes me laugh so much. :D

They set out to prove their theory that the social abnormality had to be harmless by asking volunteers to act out a series of scenarios.

We talked about this type of thing in one of my classes. I guess the saying "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt" does hold some water. Your friend gets hit in the face with a soccer ball= you laugh when you realize their nose isn't broken.

“It’s hard to find a comedy that’s funny cross-culturally because the ways that violations can be benign differ from culture to culture.

“The comedy that is funny cross-culturally tends to involve a lot of physical humour. The violations are clear no matter who you are.”

Basically, I don't find ANY of this humorous in the least.

Why is it psychologists and their ilk and colleagues are incessantly trying to make EVERYONES experience into the same thing. They are compulsive compartmentalists bordering on the obsessive with a penchant or caveat that ALL of their "findings" are geared towards the making of money for themselves either through funding of their ridiculous "studies" or by directly influencing their solicitation of customers (patients).

What is FUNNY though is that they are forever seemingly trying to nail down "normal", all the while creating "diseases" which require their services to correct (treatment) and of course NONE of their "study findings" EVER even approach a cure. Hmm.

Not funny haha though, funny "oh I see"
