Man Stuck In Utah Cave Will Be Thankful (When He's Out)

advertisement

If John Jones finds himself sitting at a dinner table on Thursday, he will have a lot more than most of us to be thankful about since, at last check, he was stuck in an upside down position in a Utah cave where he has been since Tuesday evening.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

OMG. That would suck so bad! I hope they get him out and he is okay. That's a long time to be stuck. I bet he never goes in a cave again. Talk about traumatizing! Me being claustrophobic I'd be having anxiety attacks like crazy.

Updated from the article's web site:

"Now rescuers are working to get the 26-year-old John Jones out of the cave to a waiting medical helicopter. Now that Jones is free, he is being given food and water before rescuers try to escort him out of the rest of the cave."

I enjoy going to caverns that are outfitted for tourists, like Luray Caverns, but am claustrophobic enough never to want to explore caves... I am so glad the guy is okay!

I used to be claustrophobic but I went spelunking and conquered that fear.

I'm glad to hear that he will be OK.

Reminds me of the guy who was rock cilmbing in Utah and a rock pinned his hand. The guy cut his hand off to save his own life. Guts!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news: that poor man died during the rescue attempt. CNN article here .

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

You're welcome for the update... sad as it is. I saw a blip on my local news station, then found details on CNN and decided to post it here. This is just too tragic on so many fronts: rescuers were there, they had him attached to the cable, safety was within reach, but the cable broke... incomprehensible. I know everyone was pulling for him, so there are going to be a lot of tears shed today.

Without a doubt... especially being Thanksgiving and all. His family and friends must be traumatized. So sad.. go out to have fun and explore and tragedy happens. Dosen't seem fair.

              Dosen't seem fair.

In fact, it seems unusually cruel. Some might call it bad karma or whatever, but I just call it tragic, more so because it is Thanksgiving...

It sure makes me all the more thankful for my own good fortune. I have a home, good food, and my health. And, now, one more good reason to be thankful for my claustrophobic tendencies.

I think I'm staying away from caves now. I mean I did the ape cave lava tube tour when I was kid here in Washington. Was miles long... but now.. heh.. probably never again.

I think that is a wise decision. Very wise. It's good to know I'll be seeing you around the vine for a long time.

bitemore.........thanks for your update. This really sucks! I thought he was on his way out. I didn't find out until tonight.

Thanksgiving will never be the same for his family again. My sympathies to his family.
